Air Ambulance

A special race took place on Sunday morning 20 July, after Arfie’s Race. It was a rather special race organised by John Andrew, Commodore at St. Mawes Sailing Club and David Richards on behalf of a fund-raising regatta in support of The Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Racing commenced at eleven in the morning with prize giving at 2:00pm at The St. Mawes Hotel. Entertainment was supplied by The Falmouth Marine Band and singing by Falmouth Shout.

The event was well attended, and sponsoring guests were invited to crew on the boats and generous funds were donated.

It was very fitting that in the results on corrected times the first boat was John Andrew in Demelza, just missing line honours to Patrick Selmans Moon.

Finishing places on handicap corrected times were:

B. Class: 1st. Demelza – John Andrew; 2nd. Florence – Steve Miles; 3rd. Moon – Stephen Hills

C. Class: 1st Lottie -Phil Slater; 2nd. Iris Elizabeth – Peter Cauldwell

St Mawes Town Regatta

The fleet was back in St Mawes on Saturday 26 July for the Town Regatta. One of the most popular village regattas, a regatta organised by the Sailing Club, in the midst of rowing, beach activities, children’s competitions and craft and food stalls on the Quay.

The Quay gave superb views of the sailing of all the classes and last away was the Working Boats.

A beating start favoured the outer end of the line and with eleven B. Class boats it was Rita, Robin Edwards, that popped out first and powered away with the fleet in hot pursuit.

In C. Class the line was won by Lottie, Phil Slater, who sailed down the line and rounded up in front of the fleet.

With a good breeze in Carrick Roads the fleet bunched together for a brilliant competitive race

The crowds on the Quay had a spectacular view of the boat creaming home across the finish line.

Handicap results were:

B. Class:  1st.  Rita – Robin Edwards; 2nd. Meloris – Sam Heard; 3rd.  Demelza – John Andrew

C. Class:  1st.   Iris Elizabeth – Peter Cauldwell; 2nd.  Lottie – Phil Slater; 3rd.  Serica – Paul Ferris
