Loe Beach held on Saturday 27th June 2026, six days before the Championships was a test for crews to get a measure of how they would rate against each other.
Also to date the majority of races had been held in light airs, Loe Beach provided a welcome change with a 15 to 20 knot southerly wind blowing straight up the Carrick Roads. The committee had issued a set of pre set courses which were rectangular tracks around the perimeter of the estuary.
The eight B Class started first into the wind, all boats carrying full sail towards the windward mark by Mylor moorings. Grace, on her first event race of the season,was squeezed out on the start line and had to restart , Lola also suffering from a poor start. But they clawed their way back through the fleet making most, making only two tacks to the windward mark. In the lead Moon and Meloris were bowsprit to bowsprit and got separated near the top mark when both had to give way to other boats, Florence got clear and sailed a flawless race. From the windward mark the legs were reaches and runs giving little scope for overtaking except the longer waterline boats just creeping through.
The four C Class boats started five minutes behind B and sailed the same course. The breezy conditions suited Iris Elizabeth, being slightly larger than the others showed high pointing angles and off wind speed. Lottie and Deliverance raced boat for boat all the way round. This rivalry seemed to up their game and they out performed their ratings. Leila was in close pursuit and couldn’t quite out pace them.
